Rattan furniture for any room in the house

Friday, April 30th, 2010

If you are in the mood to redecorate any room in your home and replace some of your furniture then the ideal choice of furniture has to be cane furniture. Whether you have chosen to set out your home to be multifunctional, or have a more formal space, cane furniture – with its beautiful variety of colours – will appeal.

Depending on the size of the home you live in and who you share it with can make a difference. If you are going to be sharing your newly decorated room with young children on a regular basis choose a set of Rattan furniture that is of a sturdier design. Avoid placing a wicker rocking chair in this room for safety reasons.

Sometimes it is not practical to totally replace your existing furniture and that is where Rattan furniture excels. Different styles of Rattan furniture can be incorporated into existing types of decor, and even outdoor furniture. The secret is to complement the colours, rather than trying to match up the different pieces of furniture.

The natural fibres of Rattan furniture creates harmony within a room and will blend in with both modern and traditional wooden furniture. To bring more balance to a room, look to complementing all your furniture with natural products such as linen curtains, cushions and rugs.

If seating in your room is a problem then look for smaller, unusual shapes of cane furniture that has been designed with smaller spaces in mind.

At 1st For Cane we have many modern and unusual designs in cane  and wicker furniture.

Relax and enjoy your cane furniture

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Have you ever had the urge to stop everything that you are doing within the home and sit down with a nice cup of tea and a magazine to relax your tired feet?

One of the most comfortable choices of furniture that you can sit on is one that is made from cane. Furniture that is made from cane or wicker can complement any room in the house. The most popular pieces that are known to be comfortable to sit on are the wicker rocker chairs. A wicker rocker chair snuggles up to a person as they curl up to read a book or sit and daydream for a few minutes.

Looking out of a bright and airy window when the weather is cold and wet gives you that sense of comfort that is essential in any home. If you sit on any piece of wicker furniture during the summer months and the weather outside is lovely and hot, you will need to make sure it is moved it away from the window when you get up. Cane furniture will suffer from direct sunlight as it can dry up the natural fibres. The result is that your cane furniture can start to show signs of splitting.

If you are designing a new conservatory and you want to furnish it so that existing home accessories will match, you can choose cane furniture which is available in a modern or a traditional design.

Wicker furniture is easily maintained and will last for many years. At 1st for Cane we have a wide range of desirable cane furniture to suit all tastes.

Cane furniture will complement any style of home

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

If you are a person who loves unusual pieces of furniture, home accessories or home furnishings, while still requiring them to be practical, then choosing cane furniture in the form of an ottoman or a dining table in a different design may appeal to you.

Edwardian and Victorian homes can still benefit from resin Wicker furniture as it is stylish and will fit comfortably with any style of a room. There are many sets of beautiful cane dining tables and chairs that have been sympathetically designed to suit old and new houses alike.

Some of the most popular indoor wicker furniture can be matched up at any time and additional pieces are always available at cost effective prices. Darker pieces of cane furniture look absolutely fabulous with curtains, in plain or patterned fabrics, which are warm and comforting. Honey coloured pieces of cane furniture can open up a room to give the illusion of more space, while letting in more natural light.

However, it is essential that you are aware of how to maintain your cane furniture so it will remain in excellent condition for a long time. Try to lightly clean your cane furniture once every couple of weeks with wood oil soap and a soft brush. Be careful though because if you attempt to clean indoor wicker furniture with too much water it could lose its shape due to it being made from natural fibres.

At 1st For Cane we have a wide range of both light and dark pieces of cane and rattan furniture.

Re-style your conservatory or garden with wicker furniture

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The most popular conservatory furniture and garden furniture in the UK is wicker furniture. Wicker furniture is available in a variety of styles, with cushions that are normally made from either acrylic or an outdoor polyester fabric.

Outdoor wicker furniture has been manufactured to a high standard to be able to withstand the warmer months, as well as the cooler days when nature takes us all by surprise with periods of unsettled weather.

Resin wicker furniture, in the latest designs, placed either in the middle of an outside porch or on some decking will show off both large and small gardens to their best advantage. Resin outdoor wicker furniture can be made using different materials. The most popular type have aluminium or steel frames, before being wrapped with a resin vinyl.

The important consideration when choosing your conservatory furniture and outdoor wicker furniture for your pool area, decking or patio is the style you want and whether it will fit into your allocated space. Gardens require outdoor furniture to be tough enough to stand the test of time. However, that does not mean your furniture is not going to be comfortable enough to use both indoors and outdoors.

One way to make your outdoor wicker furniture work for you during the colder months of the year is to move it indoors, as it will complement any room in your home.  At 1st For Cane we have in stock a wide range of wicker furniture in the latest designs.

The difference between wicker and rattan furniture

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

If you have a room in your home, or maybe a new conservatory, that is just waiting for you to style it with exciting and beautiful furniture, you will not go wrong with either wicker or rattan furniture. The amazing thing about being able to choose cane furniture is that it is adaptable to any room, décor and style of home furnishings.

However, sometimes there is a bit of confusion about the difference between wicker furniture and rattan furniture. Wicker furniture that is left outside on a porch or patio requires low maintenance. Ideally, the area in question should be able to provide some protective cover to limit exposure to heavy showers of rain. If the furniture is left out in heavy wet weather without any protection it will show some wear and tear in a few months.

However, using protective covers and keeping your cushions dry will ensure you have beautiful wicker furniture that will last for many years.

Rattan furniture is manufactured from a rattan pole that has been stripped. Each ‘pole’ will be paired together according to size and then used to make the framework of the furniture. The thinner pieces are woven into some of the intricate designs which are amazing to look at, while being durable and comfortable to sit on. The same low maintenance is required with rattan furniture as recommended for wicker furniture.

We at 1st For Cane are proud of the beautiful range of cane furniture we have in stock for both indoor and outdoor use.

Choose cane furniture for your spare room

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

If you are thinking of decorating a spare room in your home for either friends or family coming to stay, then you would of course want the room to look welcoming while staying within a reasonable cost effective budget.

It will depend of course on the size of your spare room, but once the hard work of wallpapering and painting has been taken care of, choosing the correct furniture is important to bring it all together. In this modern world you can even choose a bed made out of cane, with other pieces of cane furniture to complement it.

A small spare room would look absolutely wonderful with a couple of cane chairs and small cane tables at each side of the bed. If your spare room is large, you may decide to place a modern cane sofa under the window for your guests to sit on.

Whatever pieces of cane furniture you choose, you will have wonderful pieces of cane furniture that will give out a calm and welcoming ambiance to your guests. Using cane furniture indoors is an ideal way to keep costs down; the furniture itself is strong and light enough to be moved around easily.

The cushions that come with cane furniture chairs and sofas are made out of a fabric that can withstand a substantial amount of wear and tear and, if required, can be re-covered.

At 1st For Cane we stock a wide range of cane and wicker furniture in the latest designs.

Cane furniture is so versatile

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Conservatory furniture has always been the front runner in the popularity stakes with homeowners. Mostly, its popularity is due to its sturdiness, with its elegant designs and the fact that cane furniture is light and can be easily moved around.

Cane furniture is no longer being thought of as just conservatory furniture. Dining room furniture in a honey tone, or a deeper wood tone offset by the natural charm and elegance of a room, looks absolutely beautiful.  There is no restriction placed on the use of cane furniture and with the latest designs you can find that cane furniture looks attractive both indoors and outdoors.

New home owners, and established home owners, are opting for either a traditional or modern design in cane furniture for economical reasons. People are opting to use cane furniture in any room in the house as they have realised the potential of changing a room’s décor without incurring too much cost.

Some of the modern designs in cane furniture would be hard to create if using a solid piece of wood. However, with the use of cane there are many opportunities for a designer to go wild with their creative juices, to bring about shapes of cane furniture which would fit into the unusual nooks and crannies of a home.

Both modern and traditional homes require pieces of furniture that can be moved about easily, while not being too heavy or too hard to keep clean. We at 1st For Cane have a wide range of unusual, modern and traditional designer cane furniture.

Maintenance is easy with wicker furniture

Friday, April 9th, 2010

If you are thinking that you have to hose down your wicker furniture in the summer months, every couple of weeks, it is not necessary. When the weather is warm, hosing cane furniture down too much to get rid of excess dirt which has been building up can actually do more damage to the pieces of wicker furniture than doing them good.

Wicker furniture is not man-made, it is a natural fibre that has been styled to the design that you now own.

Wicker chairs, wicker sofas, outdoor wicker furniture and any other home accessory made out of wicker that has been wet through will dry out and eventually start to crack. A damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth, will keep your wicker furniture in good condition. When the wet weather is becoming intolerable then use a set of plastic covers to protect your cane furniture, or move them indoors.

Indoor wicker furniture that lives in your conservatory most of the winter months can double up as outdoor wicker furniture. A set of wicker furniture, such as a sofa and two wicker chairs with a wicker table in a light honey tone or a deeper colour, looks wonderful in a conservatory as well as outdoors on a porch or on the lawn.

However, invest in some wicker furniture cushions as the furniture can be unforgiving with out them. We at 1st For Cane offer our customers a wide range of indoor and outdoor wicker furniture, in various designs that will complement any home.

Some practical information about cane furniture

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Conservatory furniture has always been associated with cane or bamboo, although most people do not realise that it is most likely to be made from a material called rattan. The material itself makes excellent cane furniture due to its strength and its ability to bend into many pieces of rattan furniture and other home accessories. Rattan is a solid core vine, while bamboo is hollow.

Outdoor rattan furniture is always popular as the material stands up to the wear and tear of family use, indoors and outdoors. Rattan is so strong and flexible that it is also used in sections to build scaffolding in South East Asia.

Fine cane is ideal for making cane furniture, and is used to stain some pieces of furniture for a more unusual effect. Some of the cane tables and cane sofas have designs that show off the type of weave that is derived from wicker. The overall finish is superb, with a mix of designs and patterned furniture that looks elegant in any room.

Other designs that can be incorporated into rattan furniture are achieved by weaving in swamp grasses, such as the reed. Reed is a material that is associated with the core of the Rattan vine and can be found in early American wicker chairs and cane furniture. Wicker furniture first became popular in America around 1850 and is now enjoying a new surge of popularity.

At 1st For Cane we stock a range of both traditional and modern pieces of cane, rattan and wicker furniture.

The historical use of cane furniture

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

If you tend to visit antique shops and you come across a dining table with a set of cane chairs that have holes in the seating area, you could be looking at one of the earliest chairs that were manufactured using cane. Cane chairs were first woven and introduced in England in the 17th Century.

Cane chairs were manufactured with a solid frame. The seat of the chairs had cane woven into them, with large spaces that took on a coarse and unattractive pattern. However, this changed later on to form a finer pattern that we know today as the six way pattern.

Some of the styles of the cane furniture weave that was made in the 17th century have remained constant in the patterns of many pieces of conservatory furniture and outdoor garden furniture that is available today.

Cane furniture in Europe, in particular, has always been popular for its strength, its decorative qualities, practicalities and low maintenance.

In England, we tend to go with the latest fashion trends. In the Regency period, many bamboo chairs were made with cane seats. The pavilion at Brighton, with its fashionable Indian influences, brought the attention of rattan furniture and cane furniture to many visitors. Manufacturers recognised the popularity of cane furniture and started to produce various pieces of cane and rattan furniture, which included cane sofas, cane chairs and cane tables.

At 1st For Cane we have a range of modern and traditional indoor and outdoor wicker furniture.
